This mid-19th century foot warmer blesses us with quintuple hearts hand punched on all four corners while a large center-field heart surrounded by twin circles on the front, three on the remaining sides, add even more decoration. A couple slivers of wood loss on the left hand side (turned column area). There is also slight separation on the top twin columns where they meet the (wooden ceiling) limited to the right hand side.
No dents or deep scratches to report. Pegged and mortise construction give way to a solid piece that was built to last. There are some areas in the tin panels near the top, bottom as well as the hinges where the dark surface is lighter in appearance due to the solder. Coal receptacle is missing.
These foot warmers were used in carriages and then taken into church for comfort while allowing some relief from the bitter cold. Grand condition on this fine example that can also be used in the evening hours when lit as the light inside (you can used a strand of 35 lights placed on the bottom while running the cord out from the front) will illuminate the enchanting tin punched heart designs.
