This piece is so unusual that I can truly say, "It walks to the beat of a different drum". :) The strong graphics on this drum are intact and just wonderful portraying a "Mariner's Compass" star design along with a shield. Both designs are surrounded by a blue circle with a raised silver edge overlap to add contrast. Delicate folk art flowers with triangle shaped leaves lend interest in the four corners. Raised red dots add charm around the circumference of the drum with undertones of a silver line that gently offset the cherry red background. Metallic blue seems to rule the day on the two edges of the drum and four metal clips or lugs connected to coiled wire springs, (tension rods) act as tension for the sound the drum will make.
The top or batter head and bottom (resonant head), of the drum are fashioned from a very thin nylon or plastic based material. Some of the plastic has a 2" crack near the top edge and also has traces of masking tape that was used as a ~make~do~ repair. (See image 4). There is another crack about 1 and 1/2" further down in this area as well. The resonant head also has some traces of masking tape limited to the center but there is no indication of any cracks in this area. (See image 5). Some minor rust spots can be found near one of the shields with some minor edge wear.
Overall condition is very good as there are no dents and the graphics are strong. What a wonderful toy that a child was fortunate to receive which promoted hours of fun! Perfect for the Fourth of July celebration to welcome guests with patriotic charm! Enjoy! Measures 8 1/2" across the top and bottom & 7 1/4" Tall. ~Freight (Parcel Post) & Insurance included ~within the continental U.S.
