The term noggin seems to be a play on words as far as how it is referenced and in this case this word originally was derived from “Nog” which is an English alcoholic drink. The word “Noggin” in this circumstance is used to describe a small drinking vessel. This noggin dates to the late 18th to early 19th century and offers a splendid and rich patina that can be appreciated.

The dried autumn flowers shown inside the noggin are not included as they are too fragile to ship but rather offer a suggestion of how this piece can be used as an attractive vase.

The faceted sides (see image 11) are a common trait of this vessel and the log used to fashion it was probably cut on a water powdered band-saw as the straight and uniform kerf marks suggest. There is a crack repair located on the side near the handle as shown in images 3, 4 & 12 that does cascade all the way down as it works its way across the entire bottom area (see image 14). A smaller tight crack is located just to the left near the top edge.

A dark vertical streak can be seen on the back toward the wide mouth lip as referenced in images 5 & 6. There are a couple more dark areas located on the side near the bottom of the vessel as shown in image 7. Further dark along with contrasting lighter areas are scattered randomly throughout and the good news is there are no chips to report. Overall condition is good and the repaired crack is holding quite nicely.

Noggins such as this one are ever so popular because they can also lend double duty as a keen decorating object for a tavern theme. This piece could be used as a spoon or rolling pin holder in your kitchen too and during the holidays fresh greens and gingerbread men along with a stray reindeer cookie cutter would offer a great substitution. Enjoy!

Noggin measures 8 ½” High @ the tallest point (spout) area, body itself stands 8 ¼”, measures 5” across the top (front to back) measures 6” across (from handle to (spout) and measures 4 ¾” across the bottom.

~Freight (Standard Mail) included, however Insurance is optional and can be purchased @ checkout ~ within the continental U.S.
