Antique Sampler dated 1839 with Religious Verse

#636

Regular price $175.00

Catherine Goldthorp executed this dark green English marking sampler in 1839. It contains both upper and lower case letters and numbers 1 through 0 (10). The verse in the lower half reads: "Jesus is our Common Lord.He our loving Saviour is.By his death to life restored.Misery we Exchange for Bliss". (letters liss are raised above B in order to fit into the last line). Catharine Goldthorp 1839. Catharine outlined everything in a dark green scalloped edging which is a nice extra touch.

All stitching is done in a dark green thread on a natural linen base which has now aged to a darker hue. No holes or tears to report, although you will notice some age-related staining or darkening especially in the lower half.

The frame is old but not of the period. This is a nice early sampler in very good condition and has been in Judy's collection for 35+ years and we hope you will enjoy having it in your home for many years as well!

The sampler measures 10 1/4" wide x 11 1/2" long including frame. Sight size is about 8" x 9 1/2".
