Early Sand Weighted Candle Holders with Decoration

#791

Regular price $149.50

This beautiful pair of sand weighted candle holders are very special because they sport a highly decorated appearance and also come with a surprise!! These date to around 1860 to the 1870 period and are fashioned from tin that has an aged semi-dark appearance. I dressed them up for the holidays and added fresh cranberries around the drip pan referenced in images 2 & 3 for an enchanting look when placed on your table.

The form is just amazing and so is the raised dot decoration depicting circles highlighted by half-moon shapes located on the flared bottom base. Just above this area are individual half-moon stylized accents that are joined together creating a raised scalloped effect. The same dot design is repeated at the top of the candle holder. The bobeche style drip pan sports exciting scalloped edges. Two raised bands can be found near the top and also in the middle of the holders.

The top edges have been rolled over to meet the tin on the outside and then flattened for a neat and tidy look. Images 8, 12 & 14 reflect the seam that has been soldered. Holiday red and creamy white striped candles are included with the candlesticks wrapped at the bottom with aged cheesecloth so the candles do not fall though the opening. Both of these pieces are in terrific shape as there are no dents present. There is minimal surface rust on the bottom edge of one of the holders.

Now here comes the surprise……a pair of decorative glass hurricane shades are also included with this purchase! The raised design located near the bottom is similar to a qua-trefoil pattern that is enclosed by a triangle shape as shown in images 4 & 5. Even though the hurricane shades are a marriage the size is just perfect! When lit the flame of the candle reflects upon the glass lending a whisper of sparkle and excitement not only to the candle holders but to the surrounding areas as well.

There are a couple flea bite chips on the bottom edge of one shade only. However the other shade was not affected. Some light scratches can also be found on both shades. The glass is not paper thin but actually thicker. Age of the shades are unknown.

These candle holders would look enchanting on your holiday table or even placed on a buffet laden with pewter plates dressed with sugared fruit while home baked cookies tucked in a basket make for an irresistible presentation. Once the holidays are over you can place these in a window sill on a dark winters day to add a little lit sunshine to your surroundings! Happy Holidays and Enjoy!
