Early Tin Sugar Bowl Tole Painted

671

Sale price $49.95 Regular price $59.95

Tole painted pieces are just a pleasure to collect as many related kitchenware items were dressed with a brush stroke of whimsy adding color and interest to tin. This next offering is special because of the form and the decorative paint depicting folk art stylized fruit and leaf patterns.

This pre civil war era (around 1830) sugar bowl is in good overall condition without any creases to report. There are some areas on the bottom edge (foot) that are slightly bent as shown in image 9. The paint is strong midway towards the top. However there is paint loss to the body near the bottom and the surface is a bit shiny. The top of the lid holds whispers of accent paint but the dark aged tin surface is unsurpassed. A very pale white mark can be seen next to the fruit on the left hand side as shown in image 3. The inside has three surface areas that resemble a copper color and I am uncertain as to whether this is paint.

The two pieces of rolled tin that resemble a barrel shape act as charming finial located on the lid. This great sugar bowl would be a nice addition to your collection and can easily call home placed in an open hanging cupboard. These sugar bowls are not commonly found so don’t miss your chance to call it your own! Enjoy!

Sugar Bowl stands 3” tall, measures 4” across the top (lid) and measures 3 ½” across the bottom (foot).
