The box is in very good condition boasting rich dark areas in the wood sprinkled throughout sporting a nutmeg hue. Three pieces of wood were used for the bottom as referenced in image 15 and there is also a makers mark of \"MM\", Canada . The surface is smooth and there are no rough areas to report.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHoliday faux greens, some sporting snow tipped branches along with crimson red berries lend a beautiful texture as well as a natural outdoor appearance. This contemporary Santa or Belsnickle is in his element amidst a forest with evergreens standing taller than he is. His velvet ruby red coat adds rich detail and the silver tinsel seems to sparkle in the light. The hand painted facial features were done very well as his blue eyes seem to follow you where ever you go as shown in images 6 \u0026amp; 7. The snowy white beard has plenty of detail and I can almost hear a jolly, Ho~Ho~Ho~! There are several tiny areas on his velvet coat near the back that have small white specks as referenced in image 11. The base has been appropriately aged as shown in images 10, 11 \u0026amp; 12. Santa's folded arm feature along with holding a feather tree, topped with a berry, is a \"period correct\" attribute the artist carried over from the original German Belsnickle's fashioned long ago.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eContemporary small \"Kugel's\", i.e. German round balls, were added for color value and because they sparkle in the light. The gently antiqued silver ornament sports a ribbed design while the ruby red Kugel that has also been antiqued has a shiny appearance.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA pine cone accented with snow keeps this rustic, outdoor theme alive while two cinnamon sticks wrapped in homespun, (pictured off to the left) simulate bark from a tree. The black shoe laces are placed through black metal grommets that are lined up perfectly in a vertical position and add intricate detail to the velvet.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI used civil war era inspired fabric to tuck in the opening and the colors are extremely complimentary. Several make ~ do repairs are present, one just above the left side of the heel as referenced in image 4 (a closer view in image 5), on the right side of the heel (see image 7), and three small repairs near the left side of the toe area (as shown in image 8).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThese stockings are in overall good condition as the majority of color is strong and they lack any unpleasant odors as well.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI don't know about you but I just adore the color black as it reminds me of mystery and intrigue. This special, neutral hue seems to make everything placed next to it come alive with vibrant color! Interesting stockings such as these also help create a restful break either laid or hung amongst other textiles whether it be homespun's or coverlets. I can just imagine these little gems laid across an early bed coverlet with an ensample of pillows stacked up against a headboard lending a whisper of Christmas magic in the bedchamber! The delicate branches had pulled away from the trunk and the brown paper used to keep everything in place was missing in some areas. The tree was authentically and completely hand wrapped and each branch was placed appropriately and secured as needed. The trunk was also broken off near the base and this mishap was also repaired. Wha~La…the tree has been transformed and can now be enjoyed for years to come!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eTwo of the berry tipped branches are still intact (see image 16). However most of the berries are missing (one example is reflected in image 15) especially near the top as shown in image 16. As pictured in the above images you can clearly see the detail that went into wrapping real feathers to form each branch.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe base is marked \"Germany\" (see image 20) and has been skillfully turned which adds stylized character. It has been painted white with a gold stripped accent in the middle. Images 18 \u0026amp; 19 reflect an age related crack and also a small indent in the wooden base that seems to be original when it was made. This tree is in overall good condition with strong color and faint feather loss.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA complete (set of 12) German mercury glass indent ornaments are also included and has managed to be saved in the original box which is marked, (see images 9 \u0026amp; 10). These ornaments have luscious jewel tones of deep purple or could be indigo blue, crimson red and advent green. Some of these ornaments are stripped while others have a stylized design of folksy teardrops painted on using an eggshell white color. These are beautifully done as shown in images 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 \u0026amp; 7. Unfortunately, one of the ornaments has a small hole in the indent as referenced in image 6 but other than that all are in very good condition.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003et is worth mentioning regarding an interesting label still attached to the box (see image 10) which is marked, \"ZCMI\" and stands for Zion's Cooperative Mercantile Institution which was literally the first department store founded in the United States. I came across a picture of this store as referenced in image 21, probably taken in the late 19th century and saved it. This store was founded on October 9, 1868 by Brigham Young and carried various household supplies as well as beauty products. This box of ornaments originally sold for 2 @ .5 cents!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGerman Feather trees have gone up tremendously in value as well as other German Christmas collectibles that have also followed suit. However this offering is modestly priced compared to what is out there so don't hesitate if you would like to call this piece your own! There are so many display opportunities for this tree that can either enter a bedroom setting near a cozy window or on a small table near the fire in a great room or can even be placed on a mantle! She is wearing matching little pants as shown in images 10 \u0026amp; 14 that have been hand stitched at the waist using a running stitch. There are no tears or holes in the dress. However the stitching has separated on the edge of her left hand that reveals a peek at the inside stuffing as shown in image 10.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHer little shoes have seen better days, (see images 11 \u0026amp; 12) as she has been walking so long to find a forever home! The edge was formed by an unusual twisting technique that resembles a braid with strips woven over this area in a diagonal pattern to secure the weave, see image 3. This piece is a little out of round near the top.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cspan color=\"#af7817\" style=\"color: #af7817;\"\u003eThe bottom has an area about 1\" long and 1\" high that is darker than the rest of the basket. The bottom of this ladies bonnet has some areas that are ripped with one open hole as shown in images 4, 5, 6 \u0026amp; 7. About 90 percent on the outside of this bonnet is faded compared to the stronger inside colors which gives us a clue this cherished textile was probably hung near a window when not in use.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe form is period correct as shown in image 8 as the inside cotton string was used to gather the excess material around the back of the neck. The maker chose to machine stitch this piece and the edges are all turned and sewn in place. There are no odors to report. Most of the wear is located near the bottom edge. The naïve eyebrows and mouth were hand stitched on and so were the two simple dots that portray a nose. Sweet! A couple of pins or needles were removed and indicate her head was stuffed with sawdust. The head does lean forward and tilt to the left just a little from the weight of this stuffing. This age attributed feature gives her a personality all her own while lending character to the overall appearance.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe question of whether the maker implemented the pin cushion in this design because she already had it to start with or whether she hand ~ fashioned the pin cushion to incorporate in this project, we may never know. Either way I think we can all agree that it works and is the focal point. The tomato pin cushion is made of silk and sports an aged putty color wrapped several times with thick black thread. It is stuffed with sawdust as well and is very firm. The rest of her body is stuffed with cotton. The bottom of this cushion does show some wear from being laid and dragged across the surface when pins were needed for sewing projects but is still in good condition with very little fraying.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHer arms and half body were fashioned from a woven cotton that resembles flax but is soft and pliable. The color is a dull sage green with random spots of darker green flecks throughout that you would commonly see in boucle wool fabrics. It looks like she is holding onto the pin cushion for dear life, as if the pins she is guarding were made of gold! Such a good little girl! There is a tiny round spot near her neck, over to the left, that indicates a light tan color but is limited to this area only.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe pants she wears were fashioned from cotton and have a warm rust appearance with small variegated black threads incorporated throughout. This watercolor mural applied on dry plaster was commissioned by \"Dr. James Norton\" in East Baldwin, Maine in the year of 1840. The mural has been gently antiqued and stitched up on old boucle wood using chocolate brown thread. Warm and natural fabric was used under the wool to achieve a raised area that adds dimension to the cover. A double sided piece of tape was secured to the bottom of the warm and natural to keep the mural in place. Two pieces of Carmel thread were drawn together in the corners to secure the mural in the front. Glue was not used as I wanted to preserve the integrity of this book.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEvery book should always have a candle stick nearby and this old tin measure with a soldered handle created a fine \"make~do\". The tin surface is a little rough with apparent rust residue throughout. There are no holes or dents in this piece. I filled the inside with soup beans and then placed the candle in the center. When lit, there is no need to worry about the excess wax that will invariably drip down the candle as the beans will act as a drip pan. Some small areas of minor scuffs and scratches can be seen in the front left hand side on the bottom rack, on the upper rack near the right and on the bottom right bracket as shown in images 1\u0026amp; 4 consecutively but is limited to these areas. Overall the condition is very good without any chips or cracks to report. The rack is very sturdy and is not too heavy.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThree old books that have the most fabulous worn covers also accompany the book rack. The first book entitled, \"Palissy , The Hugeuenut Potter\" (Images 21, 22 \u0026amp; 23) is missing some front pages including the title page that would have had a published date. However I feel confident that this book is from the 19th century. The story line pages are intact.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe second book entitled, \"Life's Struggles or Uncle Jabez, The History of A Man whose Boyhood Was Spent in the School of Adversity\" ( see image 18, 19 \u0026amp; 20) does not show a publishing date either but again dates to the 19th century. This is an ex library book from the \"Elm River Township School District in Houghton County, Michigan. All pages seem to be accounted for.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe last book entitled, \"The Sunny Path\" (see images 14, 15, 16 \u0026amp; 17) also does not have a publishing date. However it is also from the 19th century. The last three pages have been cut out at the bottom but the upper half of the pages are intact. This is also an ex library book from the same Michigan library.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThese books do not have a musty odor and also possess a great deal of desirable wear on both the front and back covers as shown. Picture number 7 was taken with less light and does show the gorgeous patina and precise turnings in the wood. Actually, it is almost a happy accident as the lighter areas in the wood against the darker areas lend so much character and interest to the overall look! There are two small sharp nails sticking out of the outside edge of the frame just above the horizontal ribbed wooden piece. The same holds true for the left side of the frame as well however there is only one nail protruding. At one point another piece of wood may have been nailed horizontally and this is my best guess. See image 9.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThere is also some writing on the back upper portion and the bottom of the frame but I cannot make this out. Please see images 10 \u0026amp; 11. The form is really fantastic and I have never seen anything quite like it! At one point it may have held a valued piece of needlework or a lovely family photograph but has now been repurposed into a sweet Childs textile holder.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI added some wire across the front that was twisted on each end keeping the integrity of the frame intact as no holes were drilled. This wire acts as a little clothes line for the sweet textiles that can be hung from same.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA darling little dolls dress was chosen for the small brown and ecru check it lends. This chintz fabric does have a bit of a dull sheen to it. The doll dress was completely hand stitched using an unusual blanket stitch for the hem. A running stitch was used on the seams and a diagonal stitch was used on the top edge of the collar. The cuffs and upper body of the dress were accented with a pretty lace that sports a tiny flower design. There are two metal tiny closures in the front at the top. This dress has body and is not stiff but soft to the touch. The homespun check is really exciting and the overall condition of this dress is perfect without any holes, stains, rips or odors to report!! It also comes with the tiny clothespin that has been aged.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe ecru ribbed Childs stockings are just adorable! A spray of Sweet Annie and chocolate broom corn grace the front tied with a dark brown piece of hand ~ spun wool. There are some little moth nibbles located on the left stocking at the top and two nibbles on the back also near the top. See images 18 \u0026amp; 21. The right stocking also has four nibbles on the back only, near the top. Overall these little gems are in good condition without any stains or odors to report! They look splendid paired up with the doll dress against the dark frame and the large clothespin is included!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI made a wee birds nest using cheesecloth, twigs and a bit of chocolate brown spun wool used as accents. There is a small chip located in the center but could also be a manufacturing flaw as this area is very smooth to the touch. Please see image 22. The black rim has several tiny chips, i.e. flea bites on the edges. However the rest of the plate is in fine condition.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHorn handled civil war era, matching knives sporting gorgeous silver inlay detail make quite a statement. The luscious Carmel color on the handle is certainly attractive and there are no chips or inlays missing either. One of the knives does have some metal loss at the top of the carbon steel blade as shown in image 5.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe three tined civil war era forks are in very good condition and one has the same circle inlay design on the wooden handle that matches the other knives. There is a small elongated leaf pattern on the other fork and the horn handle is lighter in color.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAn interesting raised shell design encompasses this old ironstone footed, round bowl that has desirable crazing which is consistent throughout. There are a couple hairline cracks located opposite each other on the outer rim but only measure 1\/2\" long. See image 19. A chip on the bottom is visible but happened long ago as shown in image 18. The color is close to an egg shell white with whispers of dark sprinklings randomly scattered throughout. Very nice shape with a pronounced outside rim.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe other bowl has an oval shape with a half inch pronounced inside rim. The color is very similar to the round bowl and crazing is also imminent. The spoons are for decorative purposes only though and would look great hanging in a buttery or pantry! Soft pink flowers border the left as well as the right of this cozy scene.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis label does have several areas of puffed creases running in a horizontal direction which is a common age related occurrence as this piece is 26 years old. It is also signed and dated as shown in images 7 \u0026amp; 18. This box was crafted in 1991 and was the 33rd piece he meticulously fashioned. The front label is free from any creases and the scattered wear is limited to the outermost edges as reflected in image 3 \u0026amp; 4. Each box was dovetailed on each corner in keeping to tradition and so are the leather hinges located in the back as shown in images 8 \u0026amp; 10.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe wood has a pleasing red wash that lends warm authentic character producing grand results! Image 12 reflects a small area on the top in the upper left hand corner where the color is lighter. There are also two places, on the back inside edge and the front inside edge where there are indentations in the wood with some paint loss as referenced in images 15 \u0026amp; 16. The back shows areas that are lighter than the rest of the overall golden color hue. There are a couple hairline cracks located on the back and are visible inside the box as well. This box is in good overall condition and displays beautifully!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI added excelsior inside along with aged cheesecloth laid on top (see image 14) and then started to get creative. Gourds, interesting pods, dried slitted limes and tangerines along with an ear of corn, kiwi and orange slices grace the inside lending color and texture. Two old tin fluted tart tins hold early dried peas accented with an acorn branch and anise. 7.  The top shelf has luscious scrolled details apparent on the protruding edges which creates artistic ingenuity to the design.  There is also a small shelf or cubby resting on top with an opening in the front.  What purpose this served is your guess as well as mine but I think we can all agree that it is adorable!  We slipped a piece of cardboard inside to hold the stack of homespun and wool fabrics I used for a neat accent.  This little stack creates a pop of color and also adds another textured element.  A hole located on the top of the opening again is a mystery.  However, I used a piece of old wool that was rolled up to insert in this area. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere are evident paper labels that line both drawers as referenced in images 9 \u0026amp; 10 and portray nice graphics.  The drawers cannot be removed but do pull out all the way… almost to the back.  On the top of this dresser towards the back there are clues (four nail holes) that indicate there may have been a back to this piece at one point.  Image 3 shows some surface wear on the top, near the front but alas this area adds interesting character to the overall look. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOld cigar boxes have a gorgeous sorrel red color in the wood that is evident in most of the pieces created.  This piece is no exception and this rich hue is really quite pretty.  There are some minor cracks on the right hand side of the dresser near the recessed wood area as shown in image 5 but does not hurt the structure of this piece.  There are no chips or other cracks to report.  The nails have appropriate nail bleed as well.  This piece is in fine condition and holds inherent qualities of childhood fun! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe back of this dresser holds yet another mystery as there is either a thick piece of paper or fabric that take up almost a quarter of this area.  The surface on the dresser is a dry attic finish with indications of dark areas sprinkled randomly throughout and is quite wonderful! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA little Putz Sheep resides on the top where she can get a bird's eye view of the comings and goings on of her environment!  She boasts a Robbins egg blue collar that is marked with the word, \"Germany\"…so she is absolutely authentic!  Good girl!  She is in very good condition as her legs do not wiggle and are nice and sturdy.  Her ears don't have any chips either and what a great \"lipstick\" mouth!  She has some faint black marks on the top of her nose.  Her head is elongated which may suggest that she is of an earlier origin. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis special and unique, possibly one of a kind Child's dresser is just a fantastic gem to have and to hold!  You can place small bottle brush trees on the top for holiday decorating or create a small Putz Sheep herd that can lend a fun and whimsical look!  Either way this piece is sure to be a hit whatever you decide!  Enjoy! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: #af7817;\"\u003eOverall height of the dresser is 7 3\/4\" Tall, measures 7\" across (right to left) at the top detailed protruding edge, 5 1\/2\" across the area where the drawers are located, (Drawers measure 4 1\/2\" deep, 3 3\/4\" across (right to left) \u0026amp; Old glue residue on the paper near the edge of her body is apparent and this paper is also separating from the cardboard base in about three places. The wood in this area has a gradual angle and is not straight but does have a \"snug fit\" when it comes to primitive charm!
