Just in time for autumn, I would like to present this awesome fine example of a coiled, Pennsylvania straw Rye Basket filled with huge sunflowers that will instantly add autumn magic to either your farmhouse or cozy country home! Rye baskets are ever so popular and can be quite expensive. I was able to buy this one at a reasonable price so I am passing the savings along to you!

These types of baskets were fashioned from rye because they resisted rot and repelled unwelcome visitors. Women also used these baskets in the kitchen for bread dough rising.

The warm nutmeg tones in the straw creating an earthy patina will merge with any decorating scene seamlessly! A couple of the woven areas are darker in color but do not detract from the overall appearance. The pattern of the weave is simple yet intricate at the same time which draws interest and appreciation of the quality workmanship fashioned by the makers hand. There are some areas on the rim that have been effected by straw loss along with breaks in the weave as shown in image 9. This basket is also out of round.

There are no stains or odors present in this remarkable basket dating from the late 19th century to the early turn of the century. This handmade piece is strong and durable as it was made to last!

These sunflowers are locally grown here in Pennsylvania and are quite large! You will receive three sunflowers as pictured and they seem to be perfectly content residing in this great basket!

When autumn is at a close you can certainly dress this piece for the holidays filled with either greens and berries, mittens, or freshly baked gingerbread alongside old festive cookie cutters that will make an unusual arrangement especially presented at the table. Just a splendid basket, "to have and to hold"! Enjoy!

Basket measures 13 ½” across the top opening, measures 3 3/4” tall and measures 7” across the bottom. Sunflowers vary a little in size, largest measures 13 ¾” tall (including the head) by 5” across, smallest measures 12 ¼” tall (including the head) by 4” across.

~Freight (Standard Mail) included, however Insurance is optional and can be purchased @ checkout ~ within the continental U.S.
