Santa German Sleigh and Reindeer

🎁This is a precarious offering indeed but a wonderful one just the same that is probably one of a kind! The paint decorated sleigh is marked “Germany” on the bottom and provided a great decorating opportunity for the marriage of pieces that grace the top. All are glued in place and make for a unique and interesting holiday piece.

The sleigh probably dates to the “1930’” era and is stamped “Germany” on the bottom. Simple but effective paint decoration near the top offers detail to the overall look. Sleigh is painted a quaint forest green color with some expected paint loss. There are faint traces of glue where the top meets the side panels. The surface is rough but offers interesting texture. There are a couple tiny holes on the right side near the front of the panel, on the edge of the protruding (simulated blade). Overall condition is good.

Santa seems to be sitting on a round base painted in squash green paint. He does have a semi rough textured surface and I am uncertain of the material used. Age unknown but Santa does have areas of wear with some dark areas on his face. Nice condition without any chips or cracks to report.

The sweet reindeer was probably fashioned from composition and is laying on top of a thinly constructed bentwood miniature box showing opposing lapped over straight bands. Lid in green paint is removable and marked (first three letters only) “Germany” on the inside as shown. Great place to store tiny keepsakes! Both pieces may also date to the1930’s as well. Box and reindeer are in very good condition without any chips or cracks to report.

This piece does not take up much room and is perfect for holiday collectors who are searching for something unusual to add to their displays. Enjoy!

Measures almost 6 ¼” across, stands 4 ¾” tall @ the tallest point (Santa’s Hat), measures 2 ¼” deep (front to back), bentwood box measures 2 ¾” across, stands 2 ¾” tall to the top of the ears and measures almost 1 ¾” deep (front to back).
