Antique bucket Barrel Staved Stenciled Spiced Figs Bittersweet Hue Fabulous

#217

Regular price $125.00

I recently went to market and found this fabulous staved bucket with a sought ~ after color of bittersweet stain in the wood. One of my favorite colors because of the richness and warmth it has to offer. This piece happens to be stenciled and reads, "JE?" Sweet Spiced Figs ~ Net 10 LBS done in black lettering. Some of the letters are strong however the others are hard to interpret.

This bucket dates to the later part of the 1800's to the turn of the century and is a nice size. There are four metal bands still intact and the wooden staves are secure and tight. These bands overlap and are held together with round head nails as shown in image 6. Most of the dark patina on the bands is present however there are some areas where the patina no longer exists. Some of these areas have taken on a dull white hue as the metal may have been exposed to something that caused this general appearance. The bail handle was inserted into two round metal pieces, one on each side of the bucket for strength and durability! This piece had a lid at one point in time but is now missing which is not the least bit uncommon.

This barrel is in overall great condition without any missing areas or chips to report. There are three nails on the bottom but it is unclear as to their purpose. This bucket would be a perfect fit for your bucket bench and would look "primitively perfect" among-st your other buckets, barrels and firkin collection. I will also include an Olde ~ Fashioned Spiced Figs Recipe that I hope you and your family will enjoy!

The barrel measures 12" Tall, (8 3/4" not including the handle), 7" across the top & almost 7" across the bottom.

~Freight (Standard Mail) included, however Insurance is optional and can be purchased @ checkout ~ within the continental U.S.
