The artist “Louis Wain” captured a laughable scene in his watercolor painting depicting an onslaught of owls peering at two cats that just awoke from slumber in their cozy beds. This black and white painting was reproduced but I painted in color to accent the main focal points.
This piece was backed in cotton batting and laid on an old shingle using four tacks to secure it. There are age related cracks in the shingle along with several chips on the edge. A branch was added at the top suggesting a rustic outdoor appearance where a vintage spun cotton and hand painted owl rests and acts as the keeper for the owl menagerie below. The upper dark background of the painting shows more owls that seemingly fade in the distance offering a suggestion there are many more behind them. I attached variegated string so this piece can be hung.
One of my favorite paintings lending humor and fascination that is especially fitting for Halloween! Offered with free shipping. Enjoy!
Stands 13 ¾” tall including the string, shingle by itself stands 10” tall, measures 8 ¼” across and is a little over ¼” thick.
