Dietz Antique Pocket Lantern ~RARE~

#526

Regular price $89.00

This Dietz antique tin lithographed pocket lantern was patented in New York in 1875. The tin cover shows a faded image of a woman on ice skates. When the cover is lifted, a glass panel would reveal the flame coming from an oil-filled compartment on the bottom. The top has a hinged tin-punched lid which opens for air flow. This little lantern has a handle for carrying and also a clip on the back to be attached as wished. At just under 6" tall (without handle) and 2 3/4" wide and 2 1/2" deep it would have been very conveniently portable. With the swing handle in the upright position the lantern is about 8 3/3' tall. This handle swings downward as well and lays flat against the front or back of the lantern. The tin is in very good condition with only minimal amounts of rust present.

This is certainly one the most unusual oil lanterns we have been able to offer and would seem to be rather rare.
