Dough Box Diminutive with Accessories Neat

Regular price $159.50

This diminutive dough box is such a special piece because of the size and is also offered with the accessories, some hand crafted, as pictured. The early jacquard coverlet piece that acts as a rug also accompanies this piece. This gathering can be displayed immediately and enjoyed!

The contemporary dough box is a great smaller size if space is at a premium. It was finished in a warm honey color with darker areas settling in on the legs enhancing the overall appearance. The lid shows a pair of opposing end pieces that were fashioned using tiny nails. I believe the added pieces were used to support the lid on top of the base acting as a “catch” so it would not slide off (when turned in the upside down position). Of course, you can display the lid either way with or without the end pieces showing.

The turned, splayed featured legs give instant character to the overall look and so does the canted sides that terminate on an extended step providing further dimension. The tiny nails used on the box sides panels have been puttied over portraying a seamless look to the wood. This piece is in very good condition and shows extremely well!

“Rowe Pottery Works” of Cambridge, Wisconsin created this amazing decorated miniature butter churn that is dated “1990”. It comes with a separate cover as well as a wooden dasher. The stylized bird design will certainly pull at your heart strings and is exceptionally done. The ovoid form and lug handles are exciting and so is the seemingly Albany slip glaze inside. Great condition without and chips or cracks to report! It is a perfect companion to the dough box and was our inspiration for making extra pottery pieces designed especially for this piece.

New Year’s Eve Harry and I decided to have a “Clay Party” by creating special miniatures to reside on the top of the dough box. Two graduated pitchers along with a bread basket and bread were designed and completed. A very naïve and folksy coiled and lidded storage jar was fashioned. It is out of round as shown. I used real sesame seeds to enhance the top of the bread by creating a little “realism” and Harry fashioned the basket out of wire. The pitcher and storage jar were accent painted to mimic the design elements given to antique stoneware pieces.

This unique offering would be a great fit for an open cupboard, set on your kitchen countertop or on a table. It will add whimsy and folk art charm to any space of your choosing without delay! Enjoy!
