Dry Measure marked Frye Greens Oranges Gingerbread

#887

Regular price $115.50

19th Century dry 2 quart measure marked “Frye” Wilton, New Hampshire is bursting with joyful pleasantries for the holiday season and beyond that are all included as shown. Dry measure is in splendid condition sporting a reinforced metal band near the top. Individual nails follow suit in a vertical line where the overlap meets along with pegged construction near the bottom.

Nail bleed along with minor cracks on the opposing sides of some nails in the front are related to age. There are a couple small chips near the overlap located on the bottom. Measure sporting a nutmeg appearance showing dark contrast areas throughout makes for a special piece. The back side is marked in dark letters showing “Dry 2 Qt Measure” while the inside also lends markings from "Made by B Frye & Son, Wilton, N.H.”

An array of oranges, a slitted lime, dried apple slices, beechnut pods, cinnamon sticks, chenille candy canes and snow tipped greens call home inside the measure.

The focal point may be the folk art Gingerbread gnome I fashioned using the pattern from an antique cookie cutter. He was made from an old Scottish wool muffler and tends to favor the earth tone colors of brown with a hint of Carmel along with a center buttermilk stripe. He was completely hand stitched using old thread including his face and red buttons. A red linen muffler adorns his neck. I added a candy can along with an apple slice in the back to support Mr. Gnome as referenced in image 15.

Varies snow tipped greens were placed on top of heavy brown craft paper that was tucked inside the opening. This unique gathering would be perfect for a kitchen table or can be placed on a shelf. It is of the smaller variety if space in your home is at a premium. Contents can easily be removed after the holidays and replaced with other seasonal items of your choosing. Enjoy!

Overall height @ the tallest point (back where the gingerbread resides) is 10” tall, measure by itself stands 4 ¾” tall, top opening measures 7” across and is also 7” deep, bottom measures 6 ¾” across and is also 6 ¾” deep. Gingerbread gnome stands 5 ¼” tall and measures 3” across @ the widest point (arms).
