Early Wall Box Glorious Red Paint

#748

Regular price $125.50

If you crave early pieces in paint then this next offering you may not want to hesitate on!! The form is just wonderful and so is the small size that will fit anywhere of your choosing. I added some spring flavor inside the box and the pair of candles are also included!

Wall boxes such as this one are an extremely popular item not to mention the paint feature which is always a plus! The late 19th century box boasts a half circle top that terminates into a short step followed by another horizontal and graduated stepped edge. The sides and front are lowered exhibiting nice detail and form. Of course the layered paint is terrific lending an alligator surface exposing vestiges of sage green paint that was probably the original color. The desirable, honest wear exceeds all expectations and is something special we all look for in impressive pieces such as this one.

Tiny nails were used to aid in the construction of this box but are very hard to detect because of the paint. The top of the box area (3” below the mounting hole) was probably broken off at one point and has been repaired as was the case before I purchased it. This area is secure and there is no play in the wood. There are some small instances where the paint is missing due to several small chips located on the bottom edge and the back of the box. Overall the condition is good and this piece does display very well.

I got creative and decided to try my hand at dying egg shells left over from our morning breakfast with great results. These now grace the inside of the box. Prairie grass along with tiny eggs and early peas were placed inside two of the shells as shown in images 15 & 16.

A pair of candles wrapped in handwritten paper and tied up with a piece of string now calls home inside this box. Sweet Annie and a pod were used as accents and appear on the front of the candles.

This wall box will give you plenty of decorating opportunities as the contents can be changed out for seasonal decorating. I can just envision this piece filled with greens and berries during the holidays set on a table near old books with a piece of early lighting nearby. Wee Gourds and pumpkins are another idea that can reside in the box for autumn. This box can also be used as a catch all for early cookie cutters, small butter prints or diminutive child’s rolling pins! Just a great piece that will lend instant charm to your homestead without delay! Enjoy!

Wall box stands 5: tall (back measurement included the top where the hanging hole is), stands 2 3/4” (front and sides), measures 8” across the front and measures 4 ¼” (front to back) and the wood is almost ½” thick. Egg shells (total count of 13) are of the large variety and split…some in half others are one quarter. Candles stand 6 ¼” by 1 ¾” across.

~Freight (Standard Mail) included, however Insurance is optional and can be purchased @ checkout ~ within the continental U.S.
