This antique tin grater was found in Virginia and measures 11 3/4" high x 7 1/4" wide x 1 1/8" deep. The design was patented June 11, 1878, although this particular example is not marked. The style is unusual and not often found. As you can see in image 3, there is a 3/4" slit in the tin at the bottom left edge and the adjoining corner is slightly turned up. This upturn could probably be repaired but is part of its' history and we are selling it as found. A small amount of rust is evident due to age and usage but it is minor. All in all, this hard-to-find piece shows well and would certainly be an unusual and primitive addition to any collection of tin graters.
