This unique primitive wall box with a chunk of olde Lye Soap and a wire basket is our own design. It is just the right size to fit anywhere in your homestead where you would like to add something special boasting primitive charm! Either hung in your Pantry, Buttery, Laundry Room or Necessary Room, you just can't miss! :)
The soap box was fashioned from old wood and has a fabulous dark grain that really creates interest to this box. There are plenty of ridges and grooves in the wood that help enhance the workmanship that went into making this piece. The form of this box could not be better as it has a small off center dip in the front that adds so much character to the overall look.
The back of the box lends a wonderful distressed appearance and the wood was carefully chosen for this reason. Two separate pieces make up the bottom and fit slightly askew. There is a hole for hanging however, this box can also be set on a shelf or counter as well.
The soap holder consists of a basket fashioned from aged wire and was made specifically for the box. It was entirely made by hand and is truly an intricate art form reflecting antique inspired style. The wire was intricately wrapped at the bottom to hold the piece of old soap and then designed to hang on the sides of the box. Decorative tight circles were wrapped strategically on the four corners to add a unique feature that was skillfully done! The old Lye Soap chunk wrapped in cheesecloth and accented with some dried berries along with Sweet Annie is a perfect fit for the basket and rests nicely inside.
I used some aged burlap tied with chocolate brown homespun and added broom corn chosen for the earth tone colors it is well known for. The burlap acts as a fabric roll and can be tucked in the back of the box to add color against the dark chocolate background.
The final item that comes with this gathering is a heart shaped iron contemporary hook which acts as a hanger for the hole in the wall box. The hook is simple in form but yet looks spectacular with this piece and comes with a dark Phillips screw. Just a fun, inexpensive, "One of a Kind", Soap Wall Box that would make a nice addition to your primitive homestead, anywhere of your choosing! Enjoy!
The box stands almost 6 3/4" @ the tallest point in the back, 3" Tall in the front, 5 1/4" across the front, & 4 1/2" Deep, inside measurement for the box are 4" across by 3 1/4" Deep. The Wire Soap Dish inside dimensions are 4" across, 3 1/4" Deep and about 1" Tall. Olde Lye Soap is 2 1/2" by 2 1/2" by 1 1/4" Tall. The small heart hook is 3 3/4" Tall & 1 1/4" across the widest point of the Heart. Lastly, the burlap roll is 5" Tall by 1 1/4" across & 3/4" Thick.
