Primitive Wall Box with Old Lye Soap Wire Basket and Homespun Gathering

Versatility comes to mind as far as where this unique primitive wall box with old Lye Soap gathering can be placed in your homestead. Either hung in your pantry, buttery, Laundry Room or bathroom, you just can't miss! :)

The soap box was fashioned from old wood and has a fabulous dark wood grain that really creates interest to this piece. Plenty of little knots add character while the form of this box could not be better! It is small enough to fit just about anywhere and was made this way on purpose.

The back and bottom have a rich buttermilk paint hue that is keeping to tradition, as far as using whatever wood was available to fashion pieces used for a specific purpose. There is a hole for hanging. However this box can also be set on something as well.

The soap holder consists of a basket fashioned from aged wire and was made specifically for the box. It was entirely made by hand and is truly an intricate art form reflecting antique inspired style. The wire was intricately wrapped at the bottom to hold the piece of old soap and then designed to hang on the sides of the box. Decorative tight circles were wrapped strategically on the four corners for a great look! The soap wrapped in cheesecloth and accented with some dried crepe myrtle berries is a perfect fit for the basket and rests nicely inside.

I used some aged burlap, old homespun and tied this with string. Fresh greens from my garden were added for color and tucked inside the homespun. The pieces of fabric act as a small towel and can be tucked in the front of the box.

The final item that comes with this gathering is an iron contemporary heart shaped hook to hang the box from. The hook is simple in form but yet looks spectacular with this piece. Just a fun inexpensive, "One of a Kind", Soap Wall Box that would make a nice addition to your primitive home, anywhere of your choosing!

It measures 7 3/4" Tall including the handle, (3 1/2" without), 5" Wide & 5" Deep. The Wire Basket is 5 1/2" Wide & 2 1/4" Deep. The Homespun Towel measures 5" Tall & 2 1/2" Wide. The old chunk of Lye Soap is 2 3/4" Wide, 1 1/2" Deep & stands 1 1/2" Tall. Lastly, the heart hook is 3 3/4" Tall & 1 1/4" across the widest point @ the top where the heart is. Enjoy!
