🐦Extraordinary folk art Scherenschnitte depicting a colorful variety of birds on a dark ground created by folk artist “Darcy Nuding” of Reading, PA dated “1989” makes for a stunning piece held under glass. Each bird along with the tree showing folksy white dots along with a stylized curled top was hand painted and individually cut then applied to black paper.

Scherenschnitte, meaning "scissor cuts" in German, is the art of paper cutting. The artwork often has rotational symmetry within the design, and common forms include silhouettes, valentines, and love letters. The art tradition was founded in Switzerland and Germany in the 16th century and was brought to Colonial America in the 18th century by Swiss and German immigrants who settled primarily in Pennsylvania.

Frame shows a couple small horizontal white lines near the bottom right-hand corner. Overall condition is very good. This piece is just beautiful and will make a dynamic statement placed in any room of your choosing. Perfect for springtime decorating and beyond.

Stands 17” tall, measures 7 ½” across and is ¾” thick.
