Wall Box with Santa Holding Staff and Tree

#874

Regular price $85.50

Festive wall box lending soft butter yellow paint delights us with a Japan Santa holding a staff and tree set amongst greens that are all included. Wall box dates around 1930 to 1940 era and is of the smaller variety. The form is splendid showing a decorative curved back while the front and sides lend a straight box form.

Vintage Santa (around 1940 to 1950, not marked) exhibits a whimsical pine cone body lending snow tipped “cone scales”. His chenille arms are busy holding a staff and a tree. His face is hand painted and shows a couple tiny cracks in the composition while his red pointed hat keeps him warm. Beard is fashioned from cotton and he stands on a cardboard painted base. Good overall condition.

Wall box was constructed using tiny nails and has age related wear in the paint in all the right places. Some paint loss on the edges as well as the back. No chips or cracks to report. Tuck inside a small shelf or cupboard or can also be hung. Greens and Santa are removable and can be replaced with matches kept by the stove or could also offer storage for small sewing collectibles in your craft room. Unique piece that has versatile decorating possibilities. Enjoy!

Overall height including the back area is 5 ¼” tall, front stands 2” tall, measures 3 ¼” across the front and is 2 ½” deep. Santa stands 3 ½” tall, measures 1 ½” across the front and is 2 ½” deep (including the end of the protruding staff).
