Unusual Swedish tine boasting forest green paint having oval tin sides instead of the commonly found bentwood configuration. A signature along with a date of “1881” appear on the lid. Interesting pegged construction relating to the underside of handle. Lid has been notched to accommodate the elongated wooden sides equipped with twin rivets that complete their journey to the bottom edge. Pine bottom suggests this piece is American made by Scandinavian immigrants most likely from either Wisconsin or Minnesota.
This piece was used as a lunch box, communion box that held bread or as a utilitarian storage box. Interior reveals original red paint along with some separation of the tin where it meets the bottom. Some paint loss as shown on the body, handle and on the top wooden side clamps. Lid can be removed by pulling back on one of the clamps so the lid can be elevated. One of the 2 clamps should move enough to release the lid.
Exceptional form along with desirable paint make for a special piece offered with free shipping.
Measures 11 ½” wide across lid, 4 ½” tall and 5 ½” deep.
