I am just thrilled to present this little Christmas Gathering that is just so sweet for the holidays! You will receive a wonderful Song Book entitled, "Sabbath Songs" along with the hand ~ crocheted Child's stockings as well as a feather quill in an old thread spool holder.
This Sabbath Songs book published by David C. Cook Publishing Company in 1886, sports a nice graphic cover that would be a splendid addition to your primitive decorating theme. There is appropriate wear on the front and back cover but the graphics are still great after all these years!
A little bird can be seen right in front of the word "Songs" and seems delighted with her surroundings! There are a cluster of beautiful flowers nestled in the bottom "S" letter with Lilly leaves and hibiscus encompassing the outside. There are more flowers above the word Sabbath and just below.
The book is in fair condition as it has been handled quite a bit through the years. It is held together with thread as shown in image 4 so there really is not any binding, per se. As referenced in image 9 there are a couple pages that have some of the page missing. The edges of the paper are fragile and may crumble a little, i.e. flake away in tiny pieces so it would be best to use this for display where it will stay put.
The bottom cover does not line up completely with the front cover as the sandwiched inside pages show through on the outside and graduate down toward the bottom. This book displays so much character lending true ~ honest wear! The spine of this book was done in black cloth and the cover is a light tan color with black graphics. There are also some inscriptions in this book that are done in pencil at the top of the pages.
The darling red and white striped Child's or doll size stockings were hand crocheted and the detail is wonderful as is the workmanship. I had a lady make these up for me and was very pleased when I got them in. Did you notice how the heel and toe are done in a solid red which makes this nice feature really stand out? Just adorable! They also come with hangers too! I added some Christmas greens, a wee cone and a shiny red ornament that graces the top while adding just the right touch of gaiety for the holidays, tied up using turkey red thread.
Because this book is a smaller size I decided to use a tiny thread spool with black thread as a "make ~ do" inkwell. The feather quill was chosen for the comparable colors picked up in the book and is just the right size for this unusual gathering. I wrapped the bottom of this contour feather with red yarn to tie in the Christmas theme. This little addition really enhances the overall look of this offering as it effectively stands out while not overpowering the book.
Any nook and cranny of your homestead would certainly welcome this book with open arms! Laid on a dresser, chair or even on the bed, it is sure to bring primitive charm laced with a little Christmas spirit that whispers religious songs from the past! Enjoy!
The book measures 6 1/2" across from spine to front, 5" vertically and is 1/2" Deep. The stockings measure almost 5" Tall by 1 1/2" across. The quill stands 6" Tall by 1 1/2" across the widest point and the small thread spool is 1" across by 1/2" Tall.
