These darling child’s socks are certainly unique sporting a checked as well as a striped pattern. The heel and toe area lend further detail as the warm off white color set against the brown ground equates to a two toned effect.
The primary color in the socks resembles a deep cognac brandy hue as the images reflect. Cute and effective white stripes work their way into the top location just below the cuff and also above the toe and heel areas. The stitching that appears on the very edge (seam) is not consistent which leads me to believe the socks were hand sewn using a loop stitch technique as shown in image 11. Age is hard to determine but my best guess is turn of the century to 1920.
These socks are in very good overall condition without any holes, rips or odors to report. There are a couple of very faint stains on one of the inside cuffs also referenced in image 11 but is hard to detect from the front side. These sweet socks can be attached by way of a single pin to your other child’s textiles such as dresses, long johns and the like that will add charming flavor to your collections. Don’t forget about the lace up baby shoes that can lazily hang over a Shaker Peg by incorporating these with your child’s textile display! Enjoy!
Socks are 6” tall, measure 2” across the cuff area and measure 3 ¾” across the bottom (toe to heel).
