These German reindeer are such a handsome pair and happened to find each other in the forest....soon to become fast friends. They date to around 1930 and were fashioned from lead (spelter) and cold painted. German toys including Putz animals never disappoint as the detail is captured in each piece that can be immediately recognized for the remarkable quality.
The smaller deer is completely intact and is in very good condition. There are areas of minor paint loss throughout but her legs seem to be affected the most.
The larger deer is intact except for a broken antler located on the left hand side. He does have a tiny hole just above his front right leg (shoulder area) that also has experienced some paint loss. He is in good condition and holds 90 percent of the original paint. Good boy!
Both of these pieces though unmarked have a realistic look and would fit in perfectly with vintage bottle brush trees, putz houses or even small cabins. One can certainly get creative placing this pair in a rustic setting that will bring nature inside your home for the holidays and beyond! Enjoy!
Large reindeer stands 4 ½” tall from the front legs to the top of the antler, measures 3 ½” from his nose to his tail and measures ¾” across his rear. Smaller reindeer stands 3 ½” tall from the front legs to the top of the antler, measures 2 ¾” from her nose to her tail and measures a little under ¾” across her rear.
