What a wonderful example of a 1920 to 1930 German horse pull toy on a stenciled platform base that adds plenty of folk art appeal! Though his bridle and saddle may be replacements they are intact but his mane and tail have experienced some hair loss. He is of the larger variety and is ready to make your acquaintance!
I reached out to another dealer regarding the origin of this horse and he advised this pull toy is indeed German though unmarked. He stands at the ready just waiting to be admired and will certainly make a statement wherever he is place! His left front hoof has a small crack but he is "sure footed" all the same! His body also has areas of hair loss as well that seem to appear in the form of round circles. The color of his coat is a pleasing and warm tan color and the dark leather bridal, saddle and reins are a great appropriate accent! His form is wonderful and his leather ears though replaced almost stand erect.
The platform base may also not be original as there is little evidence of wear and the bottom reflects light glue residue present near the underside of his hoofs. The soft red stenciled design done on a faint grain painted ground is another great attribute lending folk art presence!
All pull toy animals are very endearing as they remind us of childhood memories when playtime was fun and encouraged by our parents. This amazing retired horse will bring whimsical magic into your home as his presence is just grand as well as his beautiful form!
Horse stands 15" tall, measures 13" long and measures 3" across the rump area. Platform base measures 14 3/4" (front to back, measures 4 1/2" deep (side to side) and stands 1" tall.
