Old Carved Primitive Wooden Scoop Cloved Oranges Christmas Gathering

#340

Regular price $55.50

What a great piece of treen that will certainly flatter any pantry or farmhouse table it is laid on! This primitive old scoop is dressed for the holidays and comes with everything shown inside!

What I really like about this hand carved grain scoop is that it was not only fashioned out of one piece of wood but also has an interesting oval shape. It sports a warm, light maple hue that will stand out well against a dark surface while adding contrast. There are some high and low areas when set on a table, as is proper and true but this scoop sits very well on a flat surface and is sturdy. I tried to show the detail of the carving in images 4,5 & 6. Another thing I fancy about this piece is that someone decided to include a thumb indent near the bowl right below the handle. If you pick up the scoop with your thumb recessed in this "thumb print" area, it makes it so much easier to hold and use! Clever!! I cannot exactly pinpoint the age but the warm patina is a clue that this piece is not contemporary. I actually have never seen one quite like it!

There is a small chip on the back of the handle near the edge and another tiny chip on the right edge as referenced in images 17 & 18. A couple white lines can be seen on the back and may be the remnants of a price sticker as shown in image 15. Overall this piece is in very good condition without any cracks to report. The scoop's surface is 90 percent smooth but does have some semi ~ rough areas due to the hand ~ carving. Just a great primitive that has many display opportunities!

I wanted to dress this nice piece of treen up for the holidays so I added some dried cloved oranges that smell wonderful, artificial greens, magnolia pods and some semi ~ fresh rosehips that came from a Midwestern farm. Some of the greens have a clear crystallized sparkle that remind me of the old ~ fashioned sugared fruit related to Colonial Williamsburg decorating and were chosen to tie in this theme.

This Christmas gathering is not only practical but very transitional because you can change out the contents and add seasonal fillers like small mittens mixed in with greens for winter and gourd eggs for Easter along with prairie grass! You certainly will have fun with this unusual grain scoop!

The scoop measures a generous 11 3/4" across including the handle, (about 8" across without the handle measurement), 8 3/4" diameter from end to end (the widest point i.e., oval shape), and stands approximately 3" Tall give or take a little depending on what side you are measuring. The cloved oranges are approximately 2 1/4"" across the widest point by almost 2" Tall. The greens vary in size from 5" Long to 4" Long.

~Freight (Standard Mail) included, however Insurance is optional and can be purchased @ checkout ~ within the continental U.S.
