It’s not my fault! A witch visited me in my dreams and wanted to punish a mortal for her misbehaving ways so she decided to transform her into a cat! Mysteriously enough when I woke up the next morning there she was hanging out on my shaker peg rack keeping company with child’s black Amish bonnets and a child’s chair! Of course, none of this is true but come Halloween anything is possible!
A gourd was my inspiration for this cat creation that I call Esmeralda! Her hand painted face lends personality all her own while her whiskers were hand wrapped using variegated wool and wire. Esmeralda’s emerald green eyes are always exploring her surroundings and seem to follow you wherever you go. She is an old soul that has protected her surroundings from harm including the family residents for centuries! I added poseable ears to the top of her head and secured them in place using wire along with drilling several holes in the gourd that are hidden just below. She is outfitted in a child’s size Amish dress with a knitted shawl to keep her warm on these chilly autumn nights.
A waist band was created from an old blanket while a maple leaf clothes pin secures the scarf around her neck. A piece of black wire was used on the wooden hanger secured by two nails one on each side so she can be hung properly. I also fashioned a little witches hat that has been blanket stitched on the edge of the brim. Harlequin ribbon accents the top of the hat placed in a spiral design as a further embellishment along with wee pumpkins added to the brim.
The dress is in very good condition and so is the shawl. Esmerelda is ready to make your acquaintance and promises to be a friendly and protective companion! She would look great placed on a front door to welcome in “All Hallows Eve” or would also be very happy residing on a Shaker peg rack. Enjoy!
Esmerelda stands 41 ¾” tall (including the wire hanger), measures 12” across (shoulder to shoulder) and measures 6” across the bottom of her dress.
