🕯️Unusual semi punched lantern having a pronounced half-moon front along with a straight glass back. Roof includes nice triple punched bands comprised of upper and lower dots with a redundant series of slanted lines in the center. Wonderful piece of early lighting that dates to the 1760 to 1800 period showing a cleated feature at the bottom. The little door is hand punched while the body of the lantern is plain.

It appears the top wire hanger is an old replacement compared to the original wide loop handle. There are some dents and creases as shown on the front near the bottom. Top left corner of the original glass that includes a bubble located at the top has experienced a chip.

The bottom hinge of the door was recently secured. There is an extra hole just above the middle roof vent as shown. Glass is difficult to remove from the back. However the front door will allow access to the candle. Some separation on the back top panel where the sheet iron overlaps.

This unique lantern could call home resting on a mantle or can also be hung. Lighting pieces such as this one instantly seem to add an early look in our homes. Amazing piece for that special collector! 🕯️

Measures 16 ½” tall, measures 7 ¼” across the glass back and measures 4 ¾” deep.
