🍅🥕The harvest was brought in and behold the rich blessings from the earth that will be stored in the root cellar offering substance for the lean winter months ahead. But in this case these unique vintage papier Mache folk art vegetables make a nice display inside a 1800 ~1840 measure lending striking color and interest. You will receive six handcrafted vegetables including a tomato, radish, onion, green pepper, turnip along with five carrots tied at the top….. all accented with nifty white and black ties.
Some loss to the carrot tops as well as slight surface loss to the onion but overall condition is great. Each vegetable has a unique appearance showing great accentuated form as per the oversized leaves. There is a semi-gloss protected surface that was applied after construction. All vegetables are laying in a bed of dark brown excelsior.
Dry measure was fashioned from oak and the graining is quite fabulous. There are some areas showing green paint on the back location along with a lighter spot near the bottom dotted with a faint green mark. White marks can also be found on the left side as shown. The inside bottom has areas of dark staining lending a circular pattern.
Bottom has been reinforced with metal bands that criss cross in the center joined together by round nails. Circular metal bands can also be found on the top and bottom location. Irregular forged nails set in a vertical position in the front reinforce the lapped over band. Vestiges of a stamp appear on the back left area but are hard to make out.
Slight separation has occurred referring to the bottom section that no longer is a tight fit for the side walls. There are no chips or cracks to report and the rich patina is outstanding.
This measure would absolutely flatter a buttery or pantry situation that calls for a partial root cellar theme. Contents can be removed and replaced with greens, berries, fruit and gingerbread cookies for holiday decorating as there is enough ample storage inside to get creative. Enjoy!
Measures 11 ¼” across the top opening and is 6 ¼” tall. Largest vegetable tomato is 3” tall by 5” across.
~Freight (Standard Mail) included, however Insurance is optional and can be purchased @ checkout ~ within the continental U.S.
