Mortar Early Black Ash Burl with Spoon

Primitive black ash burl mortar showing abraded surface with classic “eyes” on the bottom dating to the last quarter of the 18th to the early 19th century. Stepped footed base with two concentric recessed bands near the middle add style and dimension.

Contemporary wooden spoon my husband hand crafted and contents (fresh fragrant star anise and cinnamon sticks) are also included. Dry attic appearance along with several age cracks on the base as well as near the rim. Dark areas are sprinkled at random. Nice smaller size allows for versatile decorating options such as tucked in a cupboard or placed on your kitchen counter.

Overall height including the spoon handle is 7 ¾” tall, mortar by itself stands 4” tall, measures 5 1/4” across the top opening and measures 4 ¾” across the bottom base.
