This beautiful firkin dating from 1840 to 1860 sporting lively squash green paint would be a great addition to your collection as it will stack nicely in the middle location. The handle moves freely and the staves and bands are “tight and right”.
This piece exhibits nail construction with reinforced staples added to each individual finger end except on the lid. A couple of bent over “helper” nails were used later to secure the bottom band as shown in image 8. There is one area of wood loss dedicated to the outer edge of the lid as referenced in image 17. Spray paint residue can be found on the inside near the top opening where the doweled pin for the handle is located as shown in image 15. There are lighter areas in the paint hue as referenced in images 2 & 7. Some age related scuff marks as well as minimal random paint loss is present.
This lovely firkin displays very well as the color is amazing and so is the overall condition! The vibrant color hue is perfect for every transitional decorating season and will certainly make a grand statement in your lovely home! Enjoy!
