Hard to find tinsmith made bird cage fashioned from tinned sheet iron dating to last quarter of the 19th century showing nice form. Handmade, contemporary bird’s nest as well as a ceramic 20th century canary are also included.
Two surviving original perches, (one is stationary while the other swings freely) are a tell tale sign they were also made from tin rather than wood which has a tendency to deteriorate over time. Three lapped over bands possess a raised triplicate appearance and this element also carries over to the door. Some minor dents in the bands are sprinkled at random but there are no holes to report. All wires are accounted for and are not bent.
The bottom is removable and exhibits a decorative crimped edge showing some uneven areas. Inside bottom has experienced light rust. Nice condition and shows very well! This well-appointed avian retreat would delight any bird including this darling canary. A special piece that awaits a savvy buyer!
Stands 18 ¼” tall and measures almost 8 ½” across the bottom.
~Freight (Standard Mail) included, however Insurance is optional and can be purchased @ checkout ~ within the continental U.S.
