Sampler Quaker Influence Sweet

Regular price $285.50

🌼American (possibly mid-Atlantic or upper northern coast region) framed sampler under glass lending a neutral color scheme showing delightful opposing birds along with floral and urn designs. Worked on linen using cotton thread. Quaker presence in relation to the opposing bird motif.

The initials “MC” appear under the last row of the alphabet on the left hand side near the bird. Bold Greek key design elements limited to the upper and lower borders while a small animal quite possibly a dog resides under the initials.

This textile is not dated but the inference suggests a piece that was wrought in 1830. A spec of white cloth or paper lays over the letter “N” (last row) and could have been left behind before the sampler was framed. No holes or rips to report. Light toning at random.

Frame shows wear on the upper left hand corner and one of the nails is missing located on the side. However it is still sound and sturdy. Delicious dark patina on the frame makes for a nice contrast against the neutral interior. A small portion of the cardboard referencing the back top location is torn and lifting. Mat is a pale sky blue color while the thin secondary mat shows a warm tan hue. One lone bubble in the glass can be found on the bottom near the edge of the mat.

Would make a splendid addition to your collection especially with the sweet and fun bird and floral elements that this school girl favored enough to incorporate in her work.  Enjoy!
