🥕 McCoy stoneware bowl showing a “picket fence” design is paired up with a large decorated grater accented with dried Root Vegetables that makes for a great display. The mixing bowl was produced by “Nelson McCoy Pottery” located in Roseville, Ohio during the”1920 to 1929” period, identifiable by the unique and characteristic picket fence design or inverted pyramid pattern gracing the exterior.

After the “American Clay Products Company” dissolution in “1926”, “Nelson McCoy” began marking their wares to distinguish the brand applying the USA on the bottom of their stoneware line. The rich brown hand glazed appearance lends an earthy look. These thick walled utilitarian bowls are extremely durable and meant for daily use.

There are two distinct areas where it appears extra clay was added near the top edge as shown. A couple of glaze pops are also present. Some loss to the back above the bottom of the raised rim lip as shown in image 7. Two chips are located on the bottom and there are several tiny chips on the outside rim. There are no cracks to report and the bowl is in overall good condition.

The large grater is just the right height for the bowl counterpart and both pieces show well together. The design was patented June 11, 1878, although this particular example is not marked. The style is unique and not commonly found. Some surface rust is present but hard to detect. Bottom edge is a little wavy but still stands flat. Overall great condition.

I added dried root vegetables that consist of a parsnip and carrot using a backdrop of corn husks. Broom corn was also incorporated for color and durability. A piece of wheat adds texture along with a neutral color hue to the mix all tied with a piece of string that can be removed if you so choose.

Suitable for a kitchen counter or can be placed in an open cupboard. One of a kind that will add country charm to your homestead.

Bowl stands 5 ¼” tall, measures almost 10 ½” across and measures 5 ½” @ the bottom location. Grater stands 12” tall, measures 10 ¼” across @ the widest point including root vegetables, grater itself measures 7 ½” across and is 1” deep.

~Freight (Standard Mail) included, however Insurance is optional and can be purchased @ checkout ~ within the continental U.S.
