Chad Valley English Bear Available for Adoption

Bring a charming piece of British toy history into your collection! This delightful post-WWII distinguished teddy bear (I am calling Arthur), was crafted by the renowned Chad Valley Co. Ltd. in England, dating from the late 1940s to the early 1950s. Fashioned from a soft cream-colored plush material rather than traditional mohair, this bear represents the fascinating austerity era of post-war British toy manufacturing. Arthur features a beautifully shaped shaven muzzle, a classic horizontally stitched rectangular black nose, and his original, soulful amber glass eyes. He is fully articulated (5-way jointed) and retains his authentic, firm excelsior (wood wool) stuffing.

Arthur proudly wears a patriotic red, white, and blue star-spangled ribbon around his neck and is also holding a fag (both items are included), giving him an incredibly sweet, display-ready presence. Paw pads show wear and were fashioned from period-correct Rexine (artificial leather). Consistent with its age, the outer cellulose coating has naturally dried and flaked away, revealing the original woven cloth backing underneath. Arthur also shows a small stain on his belly but other than that he is in great vintage condition.

The plush fabric is remarkably clean, thick, and well-distributed with very minimal thinning or wear for its age. All joints move smoothly and hold positions well. Glass eyes are securely set, and the nose/mouth stitching is completely original and intact. No remaining ink stamp or physical tags are present.

Arthur would love to be adopted and promises to delight you with his happy and cuddly personality offering plenty of comfort. He is also a staunch defender of democracy and old-school charm. Arthur doesn't care for modern politics, but he guarantees bipartisan snuggles. He only asks for a little honey from time to time!

Stands almost 12” tall, measures 6 ¼” across @ the widest point, (paw to paw) and measures 3” from his nose to the back of his head.
