Rocking horse is probably German and dates to the late 19th century to early 20th century. Hand carved features showing unique detail that lends plenty of character. He is missing the rockers but sets very nicely on a platform base we created just for him. One wheel is stationary and the wood used was fashioned from wide board pine.

Mane is missing but we added an authentic horsehair tail to replace the original one as this was also missing. The padded leather saddle has seen better days but partially remains as an indication of what materials such as burlap were used to fashion it. The reins and bridle are not complete as only whispers remain. His leather ears are also missing. However the detail in the facial features speak highly of his unique character. Old metal tacks were recently added for the eyes in keeping with tradition.

Some paint loss randomly sprinkled throughout including the left back leg that has also experienced a crack. Front right leg shows some paint loss as well. Scuff marks are present on the back hind legs. The maker chose to carve the body separately from the legs as there are telltale signs each leg was joined and fitted into the body by way of precise cuts lending a mortise situation as shown. This extra step provided a better way to offer a tight fit by securing each leg to the body counterpart. The head and neck were made separately and then attached to the body as indicated by slight separation.

Horse is nicely made, sturdy and is in overall good condition. He shows well and will be the main focal point in any room of your choosing perhaps placed on top of a blanket chest or can also reside atop a cupboard. Enjoy!

Overall height 28 ½” @ the tallest point (head). Horse stands 25 ¾” tall (head), hind quarters 16 ½” tall, measures 27” from the head to tail, measures 8” deep (front legs area), measures 7” deep (back legs area) and the rear (hindquarters) is 5” deep.
