What a fantastic stoneware crock, circa1860, boasting Spencerian script with the number 2 in gorgeous cobalt. The deep elephant grey hue is just fabulous and the applied mule ear handles on each side are intact without any chips to report. There is one small crack on the left side of the handle measuring about 1/4", but looks like this was part of the applied process. Please see image 3.
There is an incised decorative line about 2 1/2" from the top that covers the outside circumference. This piece is free of any cracks or chips and is in just wonderful condition! The inside was done in a chocolate brown glaze that has a matte finish.
Great primitive piece with nice decorating possibilities.
Measurements are: 9" across the top, 9 1/4" across the bottom & 9" Tall. Enjoy!
