These bellows were found in Matthews County, Virginia, and are commonly referred to as "Black Forest" style due to their applied carvings. Dating from around 1880 to the turn of the 20th century, they feature beautiful foliate carvings on the front, a carved design on the back as well, and a beautiful dark walnut finish. The tip appears to be cast brass. Although the leather side pieces are worn, they are completely intact with no rips or tears. The overall length is 17 1/2" and the widest point is 7". There is a tight crack along the top back of one of the handles -- about 1 1/4" long and in no danger of becoming detached. This would be a very pretty addition for any fireplace surround and is in exceptionally good condition.
