From time to time I am able to find wonderful paintings that depict seasonal themes that I reproduce enhanced by an accented frame. These pictures are just a delight as they are small enough to fit just about anywhere, are inexpensive and capture each season lending a slight folk art appearance.
This beautiful scene captures the harvest of corn placed in a tipped over bushel basket with a darling folk art cat keeping a watchful eye out for an indulging hungry mouse. Her peeking stance gives us a clue that she is ready to pounce as soon as the opportunity presents itself but alas the mouse is too fast for her and runs for safety! Each kernel of corn was painstakingly painted by a patient artist (“Ruedette”) and was very well done.
I backed the picture with warm and natural cotton while harvest gold burlap was placed underneath. Old tacks were used as a decorative touch gracing all four corners and the custom frame was fashioned from lath lending a red wash hue. A separate piece of wood was attached between the battens on the backside near the top that acts as a landing spot for a nail so it can be hung if you so choose. A piece of dried corn (less the kernels) was used as an accent on the top right hand corner and is secured with wire.
This picture not only has whimsical qualities that are such a delight but also is perfect for autumn decorating that will grace either a cupboard shelf or a wall lending charming results! Enjoy!
Measures 12” tall including the corn shuck, measures 10” across (right to left) and is almost ¾” thick (including the battens).
