I was fortunate enough to acquire this beautiful wool painting boasting gorgeous detail sprinkled with spicy autumn charm. The artist used a wet needle felted, time - honored technique implementing skill and precision to create this special wool textile. This piece was mounted in a hand fashioned grain painted frame, under glass, to protect this fine piece of folk art.
The scene depicts a log cabin nestled in the Appalachia mountains of Tennessee flanked by glorious autumn colored trees. Wee pumpkins dot the landscape and add magnificent color while corn stalks grace this cabin with touches of color. This design is dimensional so each pumpkin, tree and leaf seem to almost come out of the painting to greet you in person (please enlarge images for more detail)! Interesting hand embroidered stitches can also be found throughout this stylized creation.
The grain painted frame was done in the traditional style and compliments this textile using interesting color accents. The original color used was Windsor green and I toned it down using brown, mustard and bittersweet highlights that pick up the hues in the wool painting as shown in images 7, 10 & 11.
There is a convenient wire hanger located in the back and this piece is ready to hang as soon as you receive it! Image 16 shows a small area located in the back that is not as smooth as the rest of the backing but does not affect the integrity of this piece.
This offering is one of a kind and will certainly conjure up the spirit of autumn as soon as you hang it on your wall or it can also be positioned in the leaning position or used as a back drop for a large open cupboard as well. This piece will certainly get oodles of attention every time you "round the corner" and I am sure family and friends will remark about it as well! Happy Autumn and Enjoy!
Painting measures 18 1/2" by 18 1/2" square and is 3/4" deep.
