Imagine a place where a cabin in the woods covered in fresh fallen snow, flanked by large evergreen trees out in a peaceful forest is preparing for the holidays. A deer, sheep and ram are captivated by the warm cabin as the alluring aroma of an open hearth meal is almost done while the family is seated at the table. Cozy stockings are hung outside to welcome guests this Christmas Eve while the indoor decorations of pine garland, magnolia leaves along with dried fruits and nuts create a natural look.

The scene I created with the inspiration of a 19th century pantry box lid filled with fluffy, raw cotton simulating snow with a cabin in the woods is a one of a kind piece and can certainly entertain not only you but your guests. The snow lights up by way of mini lights placed underneath that can be plugged into any receptacle. Old bottle brush trees give way to an enchanting forest while the animals dot the landscape lending whimsy.

One sheep is of the Putz German variety while the other is a Viscoloid ram dating to around “1920 1940”. The little fawn is vintage and shows nice detail. A meandering path fashioned from tiny stones I created adds texture and realism to the overall look. The vintage cabin (once used as an incense burner) sporting a tin chimney is raised on a wooden pull toy platform equipped with old wheels. The roof on the cabin has a sliver of wood missing as shown near the back edge.

Some of the bottle brush trees have experienced loss with a couple bare spots present. The “needles” are a bit fragile. All are snow covered lending a nice look. Putz sheep has a small chip on her nose but legs are sturdy. The pantry box lid has areas on the inside that are darker than the rest of the piece. Nice patina sporting a lapped over nail construction on the edge showing dark nail bleed and age related tight cracks.

This cabin gathering can be placed just about anywhere and will light up the holidays in your lovely home. You can also build on this piece and add more animals, trees, a snowman that will further enhance this unusual piece. Happy Holidays & Enjoy!

Overall height @ the tallest point (largest tree) measures 7” tall and measures 9 ½” across the inside diameter. Cabin stands 5” tall (including the cotton stuffed in the chimney), measures 4” across and measures 3 ½” deep.
