Civil War Era Rundlet Whisky Keg

Fabulous civil war era rundlet that held either whisky or rum sporting brown paint. Metal bands showing bittersweet paint lend a special accent color to the overall look. This piece is complete as it retains the original cork along with the bung start, i.e. spigot or tap which is usually not the case.

This was a coopered fashioned piece that would have been sold to either the distilleries or tavern owners to enable them to transfer liquor from a large barrel to a smaller keg. There are some areas on the lower bands that have come in contact with a white substance as shown in images 4 & 11. All staves are “tight and right”! However the second band from the top is loose. This piece in in good overall condition and shows well.

The tap has a stamp identifying the company as “John Summers” as referenced in image 21. The initial “S” on the front of the cork coincides with the last name of “Summers” as shown in image 18. The tap boasting glorious patina is in excellent condition and so is the cork.

**Side Note: Keg is heavy and weighs 11 pounds boxed.

This rundlet  or keg would be a perfect fit for a tavern room situation or perhaps can reside in a buttery as well. The bittersweet paint on the metal bands just doesn’t get any better than that!! Enjoy!

Stands 13 ¼” tall, measures 9 ¼” across the top and measures 9 ½” across the bottom. Tap is 8” long and measures 4 ½” @ the tallest point (handle).
