Early Antique Butter Mold Double Heart Design Swedish Folk Art
This antique butter mold was purchased in Sweden over 30 years ago and has been in a private collection since then. It measures 7 1/4" tall x 4 3/4" wide x 4" deep. The piece is completely handmade and boasts a heart design often seen in Scandinavian folk art.
The sides are joined with large hand-cut dovetails and the back is attached with wooden pegs. The back has 11 punched holes for drainage. Both long sides have tight horizontal cracks and the bottom piece also shows some separation. All this is due to age and usage and is to be expected in a piece that dates back at least 125 years - and our guess is that it could possibly be quite a bit older. There are also some rough edges to be seen along the top.
All in all, this piece is in great sturdy condition with a wonderful dry attic surface and fantastic folk art appeal. What a unique addition this would be for any country collection!
