Early Measure with Bail Handle in Sage Green Paint Large Size christmas Greens Lights Up

What a fabulous dry measure boasting olde fashioned charm sprinkled with Christmas magic that will cast sparkling light to any room in your homestead for the holidays! This measure will certainly make a huge statement on a farmhouse table or even set in a large cupboard by creating "Good Tidings and Holiday Cheer"!

Early measures have always been a favored country collectible because not only do they come in different sizes but sport various colors as well. Some were painted along the way but the common measures were not. The soft sage green paint is inconsistent throughout and the dark Windsor green undertones present help create a seamless two toned effect. I do not believe the paint is original but do believe the inside showing a plain surface shows true. There are areas revealing a buttermilk white color as shown at the top edge of image 2, 3 & 5 & also on the right side in images 7 & 8.

Lapped over wood in the front, dressed with vertical nails act as reinforcements to keep the wood in place. Images 6 & 8 reflect the metal tab located on either side where the wire handle has been secured. Tiny nails were used to keep the bottom in place even though two are missing and one of the nails does come through to the inside as referenced in image 15. There are also some areas located at the bottom edge where the wood has separated a little from the side counterpart. Some wood loss can also be seen on the bottom edges as shown in images 16 & 17.

All in all this is still a very sturdy piece without any play on the bottom and is heavy too. Shows very well and is just a great primitive staple to own!

I added some Styrofoam peanuts inside as a filler and then covered this with a warm honey burlap that is also included. Artificial greens and berries were placed on top and then lights with a brown cord were incorporated throughout the greens. A very primitive blackened beeswax Belsnickle sporting a candy cane was added as a caretaker of this evergreen forest and is quite content with the scenery! He is happiest when the forest is lit as his reindeer now know where to find him come Christmas Eve!

This is a special gathering that will certainly have a primitive impact on your home. The greens can easily be removed after the holidays along with the lights and when turned upside down, other measures can be stacked on top. This may also make a nice display for your dolls or sock cats! Using Roving Wool with carders is another option and would certainly add character to the inside of this measure. Just be advised that Santa may disappear on Christmas Eve but will be back overseeing his forest Christmas day! Enjoy & Happy Holidays!
