This hand-carved primitive washboard has the most beautiful dark patina and wear imaginable, and the many years of hard use are evident throughout. A special touch was added with the addition of a hand-carved heart design at the top. Perhaps this piece was created by a loving husband or suitor for his wife or sweetheart, and what a kind and thoughtful gift that would have been! Though practical and utilitarian, the addition of the heart carving gives the piece a decorative status which must have been a welcome addition to the country farmhouse or washroom where it was kept.
The hand-carved ridges also show more wear toward the bottom of the board as would be expected from heavy scrubbing. Note wear to the bottom of the piece and the heart carving in the close-up photos at bottom. Overall condition is good. A true primitive find sure to add a wonderful touch to your home!
This piece is almost 19" long x 16" wide x 5/8" thick at the top, tapering down in thickness at the bottom from usage.
