Hurray for the red white and blue, comes to mind as I present this next unique offering. I purchased several of these quilt top blocks around twenty years ago from a dealer in Ohio and they have been stored away ever since. I had intentions of framing these blocks but never did. Now you have the opportunity to do so.
This quilt block has strong color without any fading, holes or rips to report. The feathered star pattern has always been one of my favorites and this piece dates from 1880 to 1910. A solid red inverted square takes center stage in the middle and is accented by four muslin triangles that offer a very dramatic effect. The cadet blue calico fabric was also cut in a triangle shape and acts as an extremely effective border next to the muslin. Tiny alternating fabrics that include brown homespun and a geometric navy blue calico were stitched right next to the cadet blue creating an intricate design. See image 4.
This piece was executed with tiny stitches, see image 10 and was hand pieced together. There is a tiny stain as referenced in image 7, on the muslin fabric but is faint and hard to see. Three sides of this block have tiny needle holes where it was originally removed from the quilt. No musty odors are present either.
This block is a large size compared to the other quilt blocks that are commonly found. If you love the red white and blue color combination and enjoy decorating for the fourth of July this piece may just be for you! This quilt block is so versatile and really has fabulous decorating possibilities!! You can make a pillow from this wonderful textile and just think what a dramatic effect this would have on a bed! You can lay this over a rung of an old ladder incorporated with other textiles for an amazing look. Another possibility is to place this on top of a table to add a touch of color and style that will not be overlooked! Whatever you decide this unusual quit block is guaranteed to get attention while adding warm country interest to your lovely home! I have three more of these blocks with a hint of different fabrics and can combine freight. Just go to our "Contact Us" page if you would like to purchase more and I will be glad to send pictures. Enjoy!
