This vintage spoon rack was chosen for the deep paint color portraying a midnight black over blue with subtle areas of warm patina showing through. This piece also has a deep front pocket. The size is perfect as this spoon rack does not take up too much room i.e., valuable wall space! It renders whispers of Halloween magic that include a cat pillow, carved pumpkin with a real stem, dried corn and parsnip along with bold feathers.
Harry carved the spoons individually by hand to create a graduated look and they rest nicely on the top row while the parsnip keeps them company. The Jack~O~Lantern possess a free, folk art spirit as depicted in his facial features and his long pumpkin stem used for a hat. He is really fashioned from a dried orange…..but we won’t tell him! He is securely attached to the shelf with thin aged wire that has been twisted on the inside bottom area of the pumpkin. Three dried corn shucks were also added inside and stick out of the top opening. A single dried poppy along with a wee hanging gourd complete the bottom row.
”Cinder” the black cat is my own creation and he was fashioned from vintage wool. All of the wool threads used to complete this piece are old as well. Cinder has a cute face that you can’t help but adore expressing plenty of folk art charm. Old pumpkin boucle wool was incorporated on the front as well as the back.
Beeswax corn (lighter color) and autumn red dried corn were placed in the pocket off to the left and rest on excelsior to gain height. Two real feathers complete the opening and add soft texture and interest to the scene.
The spoon holder is in great condition without any chips or age cracks to report. There are several minor scratches located on the back along with a small white paint spot as shown in images 10 & 11. The form of this holder is delightful expressing gentle edge curves throughout which makes for a nice design element.

Dried autumn corn measures 7” tall and is 1” across (right to left). Beeswax corn measures 4” tall and is 1” across (right to left). Hanging gourd stands 2 ¾” tall and measures 1” across the opening. Dried parsnip is 4 ¾” tall and the Poppy pod is 2 ¾” tall. Large feather stands 7” tall and smaller feather stands 5 ½” tall.
