Vintage Barbershop Primitive Brush

#288

Regular price $35.00

This wooden handled vintage barbershop brush is marked "Rubberset Co" and was most likely used in a barbershop in the 1920's or 30's as a neck duster to brush the customer's neck and shoulders after a haircut. The Rubberset factory opened in 1873 in Newark, New Jersey and was originally incorporated as the Rubber and Celluloid Harness Trimming Company. They patented the "Genuine Rubberset Process" in 1878 which involved setting the bristles in rubber. This allowed the brushes to be used in hot water without softening or losing bristles as they often did when set in glue, rosin, or cement. Today Rubberset is a division of the Sherwin Williams Co. and is located near Crisfield, Maryland.

Our brush is about 9" long and the diameter of the bottom part of the bristles is about 2". The dark wooden handle is nicely turned and has a very small hole near the top in order to place a cord for hanging. No damage or issues to report except slight wear to the bottom of the bristles due to usage.

This is a very pretty brush and would make a great addition to your brush collection or as a display in a bathroom with other shaving or barbershop memorabilia.

~Freight (Standard Mail) included, however Insurance is optional and can be purchased @ checkout ~ within the continental U.S.
