These darling Child's Skis are just charming and will add color and a bit of whimsy to your home for either the holidays or the winter months ahead.
They are handmade but don't look like they were used very much. There is scuffing on the bottom and some darkened areas as well probably caused by the nails that were used on the top. When nails are old they always seem to bleed into the wood where they were driven and discoloration appears after time. The avocado green ties which could have been taken from shoes as they look like thick shoe laces, add a nice contrasting color to the piece. The end of these laces are a bit worn and some of the white cord shows through on the tips.
It appears the wood of choice to fashion this sweet little set was oak and still has some indications that a clear polyurethane was used to protect it, especially on the sides. The grain really stands out and accents the berry red paint on the top counterpart as well as the curled (toe) edge.
There are a couple areas on one of the skis that have raised a little from the painted surface. It looks like these areas were once clear and are now just a tad bit dirty. Maybe this was part of the poly process that was added and these were small drips from the brush. Please see image 7 & 8.
There is also a tiny sliver indicating a crack on the second ski about three inches below the straight edged top. This is limited to the very edge and does not detract from the overall appearance. Please see image 6.
These Child's skis can lend a nice welcoming presence on your front door tucked with fresh greens or can be hung in a window as well. Would also look awesome with little Child's mittens hanging from the front to capture a touch of whimsy we all love! Enjoy!
