A farmhouse would not be a cheerful farmhouse without at least a couple kittens or cats around to make our lives brighter and healthier! My next unique offering should satisfy all of you kitty cat lovers out there and the good news is you don’t even have to feed her or change the potty box!
I was able to find a very unique brass candleholder equipped with a darling kitty located in the drip pan. She is ever so special as the detail on this wee kitty is extremely detailed and intricate as referenced in images 4, 5, 6 & 8. She has an interesting face with large circular eyes and her body looks like it was sculpted. You can see the detail created in her whiskers, paws, nose and mouth. This kitty is standing up and appears to be anxiously awaiting a treat or two!
The tips of her ears have lost the dark, aged patina that occurs after time in all old brass objects but the rest of her appearance is “purr~fect”. A whisper of verdigris can be detected on the kitty’s back and at the starting point of her tail. She is altogether splendid and is just a delight to have around!
The drip pan has an overall consistent, warm and mellow patina that is very pleasing. Image 7 shows a couple areas in the drip pan that possess a deep, sea green color equated to natural patina that occurs over time. The candle cup has a slight gold sheen and is lighter in color compared to the rest of the candleholder. The cup has a raised “comma” design just below the outer rim and the design continues down towards the bottom sporting incised tiny lines. **A candle is also included in this offering!
The candle cup and kitty experienced “play” as they were a little wobbly. However, Harry was able to remedy this situation and both pieces are now very secure! The bottom of the drip pan shows wear on the outside edge. The other areas that are brighter suffered the above mentioned repairs and could not be helped. A somewhat rough surface was left behind so I decided to make a candle mat to protect the surface this candle would rest upon.
This candle mat was fashioned from early, blue homespun and old grain sack material……very fitting for a farmhouse! I was able to gain height by using another piece of fabric that is backed behind the homespun and stitched this up using old cotton thread as shown in image 15. I placed the homespun in a diagonal position that captures the look of an old quilt block and designed it for this candleholder.
This quaint ensemble would look amazing laid upon a nightstand in your bedroom with old books nearby and maybe a pitcher filled with fresh flowers. This kitty awaits a new home where the throws of soft candlelight will make her purr till the end of time! Enjoy!
The candleholder stands about 2” tall with out the candle, 4 ¼” tall with the candle, measures 2” across the top (right to left), opening is ¾” measures 3 ¾” across the top (right to left) and also measures 3 ¾” across the bottom. The candle mat measures 8 ¾” by 9” (almost square).
